Sustainability

Sustainability is a key expectation of JGSPG stakeholders, not only from our customers and the communities we are in, but also from our own employees and investors. In JGSPG, we strive to incorporate sustainability initiatives in all our operations. Ultimately, we aim to embed sustainability in all aspects of our business and as part of the overall business strategy.

Economic

JGSPG provides locally produced, world-class quality resins to the domestic plastics supply chain that serves a wide array of essential sectors including agriculture and aquaculture, food, beverage and water, transportation and logistics, chemicals, retail, and households. Likewise, JGSPG provides essential petrochemical raw materials for a broad range of industrial, commercial and consumer products such as rubber, lubricants, dyes, detergents, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, adhesives, paints and inks. Hence, JGSPG contributes significantly to the chemicals, rubber and plastics sector of the country’s manufacturing Gross Domestic Product.

Environmental

JGSPG is committed to protecting the environment and conserving energy, water, raw materials and other utilities. Some of the environmental advocacies of JGSPG are as follows.

  • Since 2002, JGSPG has been maintaining a marine biodiversity project along the Brgy. Simlong coast in Batangas Bay. By end of 2019, a total of 683 artificial reef blocks that cover an area of 312.5 square meters have been deployed.
  • JGSPG’s One Million Trees Project was launched in 2016. The project’s main goal is the planting of one million indigenous and fruit bearing tree seedlings over a period of eight years, from 2016 until 2023. As of end of 2020, almost 400,000 seedlings have been distributed to and planted by partners, including various Batangas LGUs, local communities, government agencies, civic organizations, schools and employee volunteers.
  • JGSPG has partnered with DENR-BMB to rehabilitate and restore Wetland No. 8, a 1.8-hectare swamp and marshland located in Brgy. Manocmanoc in Boracay Island that is home to 39 species of trees and 20 faunal species of birds, fish, mammals and gastropods.

Social

JGSPG engages with its host local barangays in Batangas City through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs called Abot Kamay, which began as outreach initiatives in the late 1990’s. Abot Kamay has since evolved to encompass programs focused on education, environment and community development, now benefiting not only JGSPG’s host communities but also adjacent communities in Batangas City.

Every December since 2000, JGSPG’s Abot Kamay hosts its annual Christmas outreach programs for the students and teachers of the public elementary schools in its host barangays, which currently include Barangays Simlong, Pinamucan Ibaba and Pinamucan Proper in Batangas City. In partnership with the Department of Education, JGSPG has been participating for two decades in Brigada Eskwela, a school clean-up activity in preparation for the opening of classes, and in Balik Eskwela, a school supplies donation drive prior to the opening of classes. Other education-related programs include various feeding and training programs that benefit the students of our host communities.

Aside from the focus on education and environment, the third component of JGSPG’s Abot Kamay CSR programs is community development. Through Abot Kamay, JGSPG hopes to contribute in improving the lives of the surrounding communities and in helping augment the resources of its host barangays. Its community-based programs include medical and disaster relief missions, donations of essential equipment and facilities, and training courses such as first aid and livelihood programs.

Safe and Healthy Work Environment

JGSPG’s commitment to safety, health and environment begins with ensuring that our employees are provided with a safe and healthy working environment. Likewise, we are always working towards providing our host communities with the peace of mind that comes from having a safely operating plant in the neighborhood.

Safety and fire protection equipment are strategically situated in various areas of the Plant, minimizing safety risks. JGSPG has its own fleet of fire trucks, and an emergency response team trained as first-line crew ready to respond to any fire emergency at the Plant. The JGSPG Plant is also equipped with automatic deluge systems, fire hydrants with monitors, fire hoses and nozzles, fire extinguishers, and various types of alarm and detection systems. Moreover, an emergency preparedness and response procedure is in place, which prepares and guides workers to handle emergencies. The procedure is tested for its effectiveness through periodic drills and exercises.

Various safety training and seminars are conducted to equip employees with the proper skills and knowledge to identify, eliminate and protect themselves from potential hazards in their workplaces, and eventually develop a safe work attitude. Safety management systems and operational procedures are also in place and implemented to guide employees in their day-to-day activities.

JGSPG is proud of its Integrated Management System (IMS) which encompasses the Quality Management System under ISO 9001:2015, the Environmental Management System under ISO 14001:2015, and the Occupational Health and Safety Management System under OHSAS 18001:2007. The IMS helps guide the JGSPG organization to work as a cohesive unit with unified quality, safety and environmental management objectives.
