JGSOC Leads its 16th International Coastal Cleanup® in Batangas

For the 16th consecutive year, JG Summit Olefins Corporation (JGSOC) led the annual International Coastal Cleanup® (ICC) campaign in Batangas. Held on September 21, 2024, the event brought together around 570 volunteers from various organizations, including industry partners such as the Samahan sa Pilipinas ng mga Industriyang Kimika (SPIK), the Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers Inc. – Batangas Chapter, the Philippine Coast Guard, local schools like Batangas University, and community members from Batangas City.

The volunteers joined forces to clean the coastal areas of Brgy. Simlong, collectively removing approximately 1,460 kilograms of trash from the shoreline—a significant effort towards protecting the area’s marine ecosystem.

The ICC, one of the largest global volunteer initiatives, seeks to address the problem of marine debris and ocean pollution. With over 150 participating countries and millions of volunteers worldwide, it has grown into a powerful movement. The Philippines has been involved in the ICC since 1994, and in 2003, the government institutionalized the event through Presidential Proclamation 470, setting the third Saturday of September as ICC day.

JGSOC has been an active participant in the ICC since 2007. Over the years, JGSOC, together with its partners, has successfully removed more than 10,000 kilograms of marine debris from the Batangas shoreline and surrounding waters. This continued engagement reflects the company’s strong commitment to preserving Batangas Bay’s pristine ecosystem and supporting marine biodiversity.

Through efforts like the ICC, JGSOC drives positive environmental impact and contributes to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically those related to responsible consumption, production, and the preservation of life below water.
