JGSPG Team Visits UP Diliman’s Chemical Engineering Graduating Class

A team of technical, commercial and human resource personnel from JG Summit Petrochemicals Group (JGSPG) visited the University of the Philippines-Diliman’s College of Engineering for a talk to graduating chemical engineering students, held on November 28 at Melchor Hall. JGSPG was selected by the class and given the opportunity to share its world-class operations as part of the requirements for the students’ Plant Inspection and Seminar class.

After a short introduction about JGSPG and giving the students a glimpse of a career in the company for a chemical engineer, the JGSPG resource speakers went into discussions about the various manufacturing processes at the company’s petrochemical complex in Batangas City, including the existing naphtha cracker plant, and the Unipol PE and PP plants, and for the upcoming aromatics extrusion unit, the butadiene extraction unit, and the bimodal polyethylene plant.

A deep dive discussion on polyethylene and polypropylene technologies, markets, products and sustainability was also given by engineers from the Market and Product Development Division. Finally, to highlight some of the best practices within the organization, an overview of the company’s Health, Safety and Environment System and Integrated Management System were also shared to the class.

47 students attended the talk, together with their professor, Dr. Florencio Ballesteros, Jr., Associate Dean of College of Engineering.
